Subject: Revisions to the 2020 University Holiday Calendar
Date: June 3, 2020

As announced recently by NC State’s Department of Registration and Records, the university has made changes to the fall 2020 academic calendar in order to maintain the health, safety and well-being of all students, faculty and staff during the fall semester. As a result of the changes to the fall semester calendar, the university has revised the 2020 university holiday calendar as follows:

  • The university will be open on Labor Day (Sept. 7, 2020), and classes will be in session on that day. As a result of this change, the Labor Day holiday has been added to the 2020 winter break.

  • The university’s winter break will be extended by one day, commencing Dec. 24, 2020, and ending Jan. 3, 2021. Employees will not be required to use any of their annual leave during the winter break due to this calendar change.

To review the updated university holiday calendar, visit the University Human Resources website. Please share this revised holiday schedule with all faculty and/or staff within your colleges and divisions. As a reminder, the university’s holiday schedules continue NC State’s practice of scheduling winter break to allow for extended time off for most employees and to generate utility cost savings for the university.
