Subject: New Policy: Digital Accessibility Requirements for all Content and Applications
Date: October 22, 2025

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II was updated in April 2024, establishing specific technical standards to ensure that all web content and mobile applications provided by public entities such as NC State are accessible by April 24, 2026.  This latest update requires  adherence to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. NC State will continue to comply with digital accessibility laws and regulations, including this most recent update.

Digital accessibility goes beyond providing accommodations to specific individuals. It ensures that all digital materials for NC State programs, services and activities are fully accessible to everyone. This includes all course material, websites, mobile applications, software applications, digital documents and third-party digital tools.

Accessibility is a shared responsibility among all those who create and maintain university digital material. Please begin evaluating your department’s digital materials to ensure they meet the WCAG standards.

To support you, we have redesigned the accessibility hub website and created a 7-minute training, “Understanding Digital Accessibility: Your Legal Responsibility at NC State.” Additionally, REG 04.25.05 Information and Communication Technology Accessibility has been revised to reflect this new requirement.

If you have questions, please contact accessibility@ncsu.edu.

Thank you for your continued commitment to making our university accessible to all.

cc:  Sheri Schwab, Vice Provost for Equal Opportunity, ADA Coordinator
