Memorandum

Subject: Cancellation of On-Campus Summer 2020 Classes
Date: March 31, 2020

As you are likely aware, yesterday UNC System Interim President Bill Roper announced the suspension of on-campus summer classes across the System. As such, I am writing to confirm that no on-campus, face-to-face classes will be held at NC State for Summer Sessions 1 or 2 in 2020.

Although we are hopeful that many campus activities will return toward normal by late summer, it is important that we give our students, faculty, and staff plenty of lead time to plan for a productive summer and make appropriate decisions.

I am therefore also asking that you strongly encourage faculty and other instructors to offer online summer classes as opportunities for our students to stay on course toward a timely graduation. For courses that are already scheduled, no action is required. Courses scheduled as face-to-face will be automatically adjusted to reflect online delivery. Tuition and fees charged to students will be assessed at the online rate.

Please communicate this information to faculty, other instructors, and academic advisors immediately. Drs. Louis Hunt, Tom Miller, Katharine Stewart and Duane Larick will be available as resources to assist you and your faculty in offering a robust suite of online options this summer.

Many thanks for your leadership and commitment to NC State and our students.
